Since his fairly competitive match with Georges St. Pierre at UFC 129, one of the biggest questions on the mind of MMA fans is, who will the California submission specialist fight next? Well, we’ve finally got our answer.

Jake Shields will make his third trip into the octagon at UFC Fight Night 25 on September 17th in New Orleans, Louisiana. Standing opposite the cage will be the durable, and well-rounded Jake Ellenberger who’s been seeking a major marquee fight for some time; some wishes do come true.

Shields sports a 1-1 record fighting for the promotion, but has only lost a single bout in nearly seven years. His professional record stands at 26-5-1, and he’s stopped 13 of his opponents by knockout, technical knockout or submission.

Ellenberger brings with him more experience fighting for the UFC, having compiled a promotional record of 4-1. He last collided with Sean Pierson at UFC 129, where he knocked the Canadian unconscious in just under three minutes. It was a rude awaking for the hometown favorite Pierson, but an indicator that it’s time for Ellenberger to step up and begin meeting top flight competition.

Ellenberger’s career record stands at 24-5.
