The last week has seen forums buzz with rumors of a Chael Sonnen/Lyoto Machida clash. It all began when the outspoken Sonnen decided to aim his verbal barbs at the former light heavyweight champion. Lyoto, ever the warrior, was quick to address the Sonnen madness, informing Chael and media alike that he’s more than willing to meet the infamous Oregonian.
Well, the trash talk, and rumors for that matter can finally rest.
According to numerous outlets, the UFC is targeting a Chael Sonnen return for UFC 136, where he’ll likely meet surging middleweight prospect, Brian “All American” Stann in a featured middleweight clash.
Chael’s been sidelined since August of last year courtesy of some issues regarding his highly publicized testosterone replacement therapy scandal as well as a money laundering conviction in Oregon.
Stann in contrast has rattled off three consecutive stoppage victories since dropping to middleweight, including a first round trouncing of Chris Leben.
UFC 136 is expected to go down on Oct. 8 from Houston’s Toyota Center.
