UFC 138 has its first five round non-title main event.
A fight between UFC middleweight Chris Leben (26-7 MMA, 12-6 UFC) and Mark Munoz (11-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC), as UFC officials announced today, is scheduled for 25 minutes instead of the usual 15
In June, UFC president Dana White said that all future non-headlining UFC the pay-per-view or cable are expected to fight five rounds instead of three.
But White has confirmed today via Twitter that November 5 Munoz vs. Leben fight, sending on Spike TV (same day delay) LG Arena in Birmingham, England, will be his first.
While a fight between Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann at UFC 136 is likely to get a shot at middleweight champion Anderson Silva (or Yushin Okami, who challenges the champion in the UFC 134 event), Munoz and Leben can not be far behind. The two contenders are 4-1 in his past five fights, and have published high-profile victories (over Wanderlei Silva, Demian Maia, respectively) in recent classes.
